The month of January was a busy month here at preschool.  We spent the month learning about snow, ice, penguins and all the other cold things that winter brings.  We also had a chance to go to Raceway Pizza in Braidwood for a field trip.  The kids really enjoyed having a tour of the restaurant and seeing how the pizzas are made.  Their favorite by far though was making their own pizzas, either cheese or pepperoni, and then being able to eat it.
For Jesus and chapel this month we learned about the three wise men, Jesus at the temple, Jesus calling the 12 disciples, and the baptism of Jesus.  We also collected $30.24 for the families in Connecticut at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.  This money will be donated through Lutheran Church Charities.

For February in chapel we are going to be collecting for a congregation member whose ex-husband took his own life.  The money collected will be used to help her three children attend a Christian Preschool.

We are looking forward to the next month at school, especially Valentines Day.  It is a day of showing the ones you love that you care.  It is also a day to remember that God loves us, no matter what!  What a wonderful gift, even better than a box of chocolates!

God’s blessings as we start the Lenten Season,

Raceway Pizza Field Trip Extension Activity

After our Pizza trip our 4's class had a great time making fake pizzas in class and also giving directions on how to make a pizza.  My favorite quote when asked how do you make a pizza ... "Ask my mom to make me one!"
To make the pizzas, the students used dough (brown paper), sauce (red paint), spices (green glitter), cheese (yellow yarn), and finally pepperoni (small red circles of paper).

Chapel Offerings
For the month of December we collected chapel offering for the Salvation Army.  We collected $40 to send to them.
For January, we are collecting money to go to the people that were sadly affected in the shooting at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in CT. The money we collect will be given to Lutheran Church Charities, which will be then passed on to the victims.  Because this is something so tragic, we won’t go into any details of where this money is going with our preschoolers.  We will tell them that the money is going to a school and families in need.
A Few Reminders
Thank you to everyone who donated gently used coats, hats, mittens, and scarves.  We gave them to the Community Care Center over the break and they were very appreciative!
If you have any questions regarding our Raceway Pizza field trip, please let Mrs. Simonelli know.  Attached to this newsletter is the permission slip.
Scholastic Book orders are due on January 25th.  Don’t forget to use your $5 gift certificates!  Books make great gifts!
We will be collecting pop tabs to give to The Ronald McDonald House in honor of a preschool student from the Lutheran Church in Dwight.  There is a collection bin on the cubbies.
Over break we had a chance to count and send in our Campbell’s Labels for Education.  For the first 4 months of school we collected almost 2000 points for our school!  Attached to this newsletter is a collection sheet that when filled would give us 50 extra points.  Our goal is to get 25 of these sheets turned in for a total of 1275 points.  These sheets are due at the end of January.  We are saving up points to buy new supplies for our classrooms, just like the scooters that we received last year!  Thanks for your help with this!
